The best of the 2011 MET Gala

All hail Alexander McQueen!!!

The british designer who tragically ended his life a year ago is already missed among the fashion world and fashionistas. This year's annual ball held in aid of the Costume Institute at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art  paid tribute to the work of the late  Alexander McQueen.

Below are some of the trends that I spotted celebrities donning to the red carpet event.

Feathers

Celebrities went over board with feathers to honor the late A. McQueen, who we all know had a dear passion for animal inspired garments. Liv Tyler left a trail of them behind her as she kept on shredding away.. As for Demi, she went very British with her hat, possibly her personal tribute to the late designer.

Dramatic Red

Set to burn down the red carpet, these few dared the HEAT in red. While J.Lo and MK Olsen toned down their redness, Gisele sizzled in fire truck red.

Embroidery and Embelishments

Another hit on the  2011 MET Gala was embroidery to the max. While Blake kept it simple and sexy, Beyonce and Naomi went overboard with their needles. Fergie sexed it up in a lovely hand-embroided dress, while Amy disappointed in her granny-ish dress.

Nude Tones

Congratulations if you bet that Gwyneth will fall in this category again!
I must note how some made their nude dresses a massive hit, while some kept it simple and chic- ALA CK. I must say I was expecting SJP to be in a tutu or mad tulle, but she kept it low with a nude sequinned straight column dress. As for Ashley and Dakota, WOW!!!

Pale to White

White has always been a plain, innocent colour, never the fav of the late McQueen. Nicole looked time-lost in her Glamour- Hollywood inspired dress and do, as the newly mum Miranda looked like she had just come back from the White Swan casting call.

Printed Patterns

Having a deep love for patterns and prints, personally,  I would have never worn a printed dress to such a Gala.  Instead of playing around with prints, I expect more texture and layers on the dresses. Sice, it is a gala!!

Gold

Gold is a rich color. So gold added with bronzer, jewelry, and golden hair, just looks tacky. It ends up looking like a christmas ornament or a space suit. But if gold is worn by darker haired girls, with no add ons, it can look beautiful and elegant such as worn by Jessica Alba and .

 Shimmering Sequins and Beads

Hmmm... Diane and Kirsten looked fenomenal, while the rest looked predictable. Especially the forever- manicured bob! Try harder! Why spend a fortune on a dress just to look ordinary?

Bold Colours

Now these dressses are one thing that you don't want to be seeing at the MET Gala. Slinky Satin with no layers often ends up looking like cheap party dresses. However, when embellished such as Madonna's starry dress, it looks fabulous. Mote textures please!!!

The Winners!!!

The two looked absolutely stunning in their high end gowns.. The hair and make up went well with their  dress and made them look like goddesses.
Now this is how one should dress to the MET Gala!!
